1988 Gibson L-4CES Maker: Gibson Bought From: Southern Guitars Comments: Did I mention I like natural finish guitars? For quite a while I'd been on the lookout for this exact model. Its the one that's all solid woods. The back and sides are solid, carved mahogany. The L-4's with maple back and sides are laminated. I've also wanted a "traditional" Gibson archtop with mounted (as opposed to floating) pickups. The L-4 is my prefered body size (16") and scale length (24.74"). The L-4CES was introduced in 1950 and discontinued in 1969. It was reintroduced in 1987, making this an early example of the new version. |
